Creatives always think they’re right.
That the idea they’ve put on the page is the right answer.
And, often, the only answer.
Some even wear their stubbornness as a badge of honour.
Creative vs Strategy, Brand Team, Clients and the rest of the world.
But if there’s one thing you’re suppose to be as a creative it’s open.
To always have an eye out for ways to improve an idea.
You’re used to doing it through the production process. Welcoming suggestions from photographers, illustrators and directors. Watching out for the unexpected magic that happens.
Make sure that you’re doing that everywhere else too.
It should always be about making the work the best it can possible be.
There’s been times when I’ve been absolutely convinced that nothing can change. The amends didn’t makes sense and the comments we were getting would make the whole thing pointless.
And sometimes that is true.
But there’s more than just a few cases in which, after a bit of moaning followed by a bit of rethinking we’ve ended up with something much stronger.
When that happens hold your hands up and admit the idea’s better.
That you’ve got to a place you wouldn’t have yourself.
It’s advice everyone should follow.
Because I said it and, as a creative, I’m always right.
